Vernie H. Houser, age 92, of Forest City, died Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at White Oak Manor in Rutherfordton.
Vernie was born May 17, 1927 in Cleveland County to the late Minnie Hastings. She was a faithful member of Big Springs Baptist Church. Vernie worked in textiles for many years which included Valdese Manufacturing. She enjoyed word search puzzles, reading the Bible, flower gardening and quilting.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Greene; two brothers, Corbett Hastings and Paul Workman; two sisters, Blanche Murray and Doris Solon.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Sue Dale (James) of Morganton and Kay Towery of Forest City; two sons, Donald Houser (Sarah) Forest City and Ronnie Houser (Sybil) and son-in-law, Bobby Greene, all of Ellenboro; two brothers, Jack Hastings (Phyllis) of New Kent, Virginia and Joe Hastings of Albany, Georgia; special sister-in-law, Betty Houser of Bostic and special nephew, Rubin Solon (Gloria) of Sugartown, Louisiana. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and twenty-two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the Big Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Paul Scott officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the church. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Clover Hill UMC Cemetery in Casar.
