Virginia Smart Taylor, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Rutherford Hospital.
Mrs. Taylor taught music in the Rutherford County Schools and privately for 72 years. She co-initiated and was first president of the Lucille Wall Music Club. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church, where she was an organist and Sunday school teacher for many years. She volunteered at Rutherford Hospital in the gift shop and made fudge and baked cakes for the gift shop and snack bar. In 1990, Earl and Virginia Taylor received the Rutherford Hospital Auxiliary Extra Mile Award in recognition of exceptional volunteer service. The award was created for the dedication the Taylors showed to the hospital. From 1989 until 1999 Virginia had worked a total of 9,056 hours. Mrs. Taylor was an avid swimmer and swam at ICC for 25 years.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 66 ' years, Earl C. Taylor in 2000; her parents Charlie Ed and Myrtle Smart; three brothers, Solon, Ernest and Addie Smart.
She is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Taylor of Springfield, VA; one son, Ray Taylor and wife Beverly of Marietta, GA; two granddaughters, Amy Taylor of Morristown, NJ and Angie Hudson and husband Jim of Rome, GA, two great grandchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth Hudson, a sister-in-law, Ruby Smart of Mooresboro, NC and a number of Nieces and nephews.
