Wallace Eugene 'Red' Gowan, age 74, of Brackett Road, Forest City, NC, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Hospice House.
Red was born October 12, 1937 in Spartanburg County, SC to the late Wallace Debous Gowan and Dullie Gilbert Gowan. He worked in maintenance for Broyhill Industries for several years and AGI for 27 years before his retirement. He was a member of Morningstar Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He loved helping people.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilma Russell, Virginia Greene and Katheryn Vickers and two brothers, James Gowan and Roland Gowan.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Doris Sue Gowan; three sons, Randy Gowan, Jody Gowan both of Forest City and Chris Gowan and wife, Jean Ann of Rutherfordton; one daughter, Brenda Greene of Concord, NC; two brothers, Elbert Gowan of Boiling Springs, NC and Paul Gowan of Harris; two sisters, Bonnie Mae Foster of Lincolnton and Gladys Teston of Nicholls, GA. He is also survived by six granchildren, Brandon Dean Gowan, Billy Wayne Jones and wife, Sarah, Brian Steven Lee and wife, Ashley, Autumn Brianna Gowan, Megan Elizabeth Musgrave and Brittany Lauren Musgrave; five great grandchildren, Harley Nicole Jones, Lisa Marie Jones, Zachary Wallace James Lee, Cameron Christopher Wayne Lee and Braylyn Tyler Sutton.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Gowan by the staff of Hospice and also wish to thank Jody Gowan for his constant love and sacrifice in caring for his dad during his illness.
