Walter A. Gero, age 90, of Henrietta, NC, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Hospice House of Rutherford County.
Born July 2, 1926 in Malone, New York, he was a son to the late Frederick Gero and Viola Higgins Gero. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Philippines during World War II. Walter worked as a carpenter and a masonry finisher. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife of over thirty years, Evelyn Sancomb Gero; a special friend, Theresa Tavernia; three sisters and a brother.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, David Gero and wife, Frances of Henrietta; six daughters, Linda Cesario of Chittenango, New York, Barbara Adair of Schenectady, New York, Bonnie Mahoney and husband, Dennis of Chittenango, Carolyn Gross, Brenda Clark and Maria Riddell all of Schenectady; one brother, Raymond Gero of Duane, New York and sister, Katherine Gero of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by a multiple number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and a host of special friends and extended family members.
A gathering of remembrance will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home. At other times the family will be gathered at his son's house.
