William "Bill" Bridges, age 79, of Shelby, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at his residence.
Born June 15, 1935 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late William E. Bridges and Vernie Dycus Bridges. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War Era and also served in the Naval Reserve and Army National Guard for several years. He worked for Hoechst-Celanese and Sara Lee Industries as a HVAC maintenance technician for many years. Bill was a member of Putnam Baptist Church and enjoyed camping with his family at Lake James.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Geraldine Bridges, Corine Ellington, Edene Towery, Joyce Greene and Darlene Crowe; two brothers, Johnny Steve Bridges and James Edward Bridges; one grandson, Dana Michael Blake and great-granddaughter, Morgan Bristol.
Survivors include his loving wife of twenty-two years, Joyce Rogers Bridges; four daughters, Teresa Bridges Blake and husband, Leroy of Blacksburg, SC; Sherri Lynn Buff of Forest City, Angela Joy Buff and Toni Maxine Horton both of Shiloh; two sons, Dennis Eugene Bridges and wife, Shirley of Shelby and Jeffrey Scott Buff of Forest City. He is also survived by a number of grand and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Adam Green officiating. Interment will follow in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Rutherford County Honor Guard providing military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. At other times they will be gathered at 2107 Dana Place, Shelby.
