Worth "Pete" Homer Mitchell, Jr. met the Lord face to face on Tuesday, August 25, 2015.
He was a proud father, paw-paw, brother and friend to the many who loved him.
He was born May 28, 1942, to the late Worth H. Mitchell, Sr. and Rosley Dobbins Mitchell. He was a life-long resident of Rutherford County, North Carolina and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He worked in textiles for many years and also for Rutherford County EMS as a Paramedic and a Dispatcher at Rutherford County Communications center. He loved fishing, the beach and singing for many years in a Men's Gospel Quartet and being outdoors. He was full of life and was able to obtain his life-long dream of living at the beach with his brother, Neilan Mitchell of Gulfport, Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Bennie Sue Mitchell; two sons, Pete Mitchell and wife, Terri, of Rutherfordton and Michael Mitchell and wife, Deleslie, of Rutherfordton; one daughter, Crystal Mitchell Laws and husband, Kenneth, of Forest City. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Trey Mitchell, Paul Mitchell and fiancé, Heidi Young, Amber Harrill and husband, Brandon, Jacob Walker, MaKenna Laws, Mikie Mitchell and fiancé, Kylie Fisher, Taylor Mitchell, Haygen Hunter and Grayson Mitchell; three great-grandchildren, Bailee Harrill, Mason Harrill, Kolten Fisher and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend our greatest appreciation to Neilan; he was more than a brother but also his caregiver and best friend.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Sunday, September 6, from 2 o'clock until 4 o'clock at the Piedmont Community Clubhouse on Maple Creek Rd. in Rutherfordton.
The family will be gathered at the home of his daughter, Crystal Laws, 243 Providence Road in Forest City.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Rutherfordton or Disabled Americans Veterans, 2600 23rd Avenue, Gulfport, MS 39501.
